Here's a story you might have missed if you rely on the St.Louis Post-Dispatch. An estimated 4000 union members, students, clergy and other activists gathered at Kiener Plaza in downtown St.Louis this Friday for a rally against corporate greed. The gathering was in response to the events in Wisconsin and what many consider anti-union and anti-worker legislation making it's way through the Missouri Legislature, including a "Right to Work" bill that the state senate will vote on Monday. Below are some links News organizations and blogs that did cover the event.
Given the saturation coverage that the Post-Dispatch gave to the rise of the local Tea Party movement it seems odd that this member of the "liberal media" would ignore a large rally representing the growing backlash against the union bashing poliices of the republican party. There was no mention in Saturdays paper about the rally and a search of the STL Today web site also comes up blank. Pehaps local progressive activists will have to start disrupting town hall meeting with screaming and shouting to get the attention of the local newspaper. Maybe progressives should get corporate sponsors like the tea partiers did to help fund a media campaign, oh wait, progressives are trying to fight corporate power.
Come on Post-Dispatch, wake up and take notice, some of us in whats left of the middle class aren't going down without a fight.
